A typical Tuesday can look different for many people! For some, its the usual grind of getting up, getting yourself dressed for work and out the door you go with coffee in hand to conquer the day. You walk through the door at work and are possibly greeted by the early bird who gets to the office when it’s still dark outside. Or you might be walking into the quiet office because you are that early bird and the first one in the office. As 8 o’clock rolls around, more and more coworkers start to fill in the offices around yours and the hustle and bustle begins your day! Whether you work in a corporate office or you work in a school and your office is a classroom filled with kids, its a typical Tuesday. For you, your Tuesday may be filled with emails, interactions with adults or kids trying to be an adult, lunch break and then the wonderful end to your day and you are on your commute home to tackle the next thing. You have been productive! You have tackled those items on your to do list. You meet with your boss and made a plan on how to grow the company or brainstorm what the next project you will be working on! You have made a difference in that child’s life that day, or taught them something new that they cant wait to tell their mom. Or you consoled their hurt feelings from the playground because someone took their spot on the swing! You made a difference in their day!
Sometimes, as a stay at home mom, I wonder if I will have that same impact as the people who are working a 9 to 5 job. Most of the time I am trying to reason with illogical 2 year old on why we are not going to have cookies for breakfast. Or say the word “no” 50 times before lunch. My day begins when the my babies wake up in the morning and pretty much does not stop all day long. Except for the couple of hours that I MIGHT get to myself if I get both my babies down for nap at the same time. Most of the time, you will find me here in our playroom filled with toys, books, stuffed animals, games etc. My kids fill this room with their laughter, tears, tantrums, and excitement!
Yet, I ask myself these questions, how will I impact their lives? Am I doing enough? Am I guiding them correctly to be strong and independent in the world? I ask these questions for my big boys as well. I just have less time with them during the day. That is all I think about as a mom. In a corporate job, there are more concrete items and procedures how to complete a task and hours set in your schedule. As a stay at home mom, those areas are very gray! As a mom I hope I live up to the title that the good Lord has blessed me with.
Whether you are a stay at home mom like myself, or a working mom, or a woman in a corporate world thinking about your future, we all ask the same question,
How will I make an impact today?
The world needs all types of people and most importantly, the world needs YOU to make a positive impact!
